New primary care access hubs open in Denton and Stalybridge
This week, Tameside Council’s Executive Leader Brenda Warrington opened the new hub at Denton. She said: “Local people spoke and we responded by providing more access to primary care services out-of-hours.
“Today, it was with great pleasure that I was asked to open the new hub in Denton. This will enable more access to primary care in Tameside. Meaning, local people can see a health care professional, with a minor illness, when they need it the most and receive treatment instead of having to go to the hospital’s A&E department when their GP is closed.
“The additional hubs in Denton and Stalybridge will help with the increasing demand on the health and social care system, ensuring those who are the sickest and in most need, receive the urgent care they need in the right place at the right time”.
People who are registered with a GP practice in Tameside and Glossop can now access healthcare professional appointments in an extended hours period, at two, new additional primary care access hubs in Denton (Ann Street Health Centre, Millgate Partnership, Ann Street, Denton, M34 2AJ) and Stalybridge (St. Andrews House Medical Centre, Stalybridge Resource Centre, 2 Waterloo Road, Stalybridge, SK15 2AU).
The additional hubs will make a total of five primary care access hubs across Tameside and Glossop, increasing access to primary care locally, offering appointments in the evenings and at weekends, seven days a week.
The existing hubs with appointments already developed are based at the Ashton Primary Care Centre, Glossop Primary Care Centre and Thornley House Medical Centre in Hyde.
Patients will be able to access appointments:
Monday to Friday between 6.30pm and 9pm at one of the five neighbourhood hubs
Saturday and Sunday at Ashton Neighbourhood Hub (daytime and evenings) and Glossop Neighbourhood Hub (mornings)
Patients who require urgent but non-life-threatening medical assistance when their GP practice is closed may be offered an appointment at one of the five hubs. Ashton Neighbourhood Hub will have availability seven-days-a-week, between 6.30pm and 8am.
Creation of the additional hubs follows last year’s 12 week Urgent Care public consultation, when local people were asked to have their say on the way we delivered and improved access to Urgent Care for conditions that need prompt medical help but are not life threatening.
The evening and weekend appointments are available as part of the seven day service, that aims to improve access to primary care services outside of a practice’s core opening hours of 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The service is available to anyone registered with a practice in Tameside or Glossop and patients can book an appointment by contacting their own GP practice or via referral from NHS 111. Clinicians staffing the evening and weekend service will be able to access patients’ medical records, subject to the patient's consent.
