We provide a Macmillan Information & Support Service working in partnership with Tameside Hospital & Macmillan Cancer Support.

We provide support accessing help from welfare benefits, charitable grants, emotional support & therapies, information and representation for people living with cancer, their family members and their carers across the whole of the Tameside & Glossop area. The service utilizes a range of approaches to best suit the specific needs of clients, including telephone contact, face-to-face meetings and home or clinic visits. We take pride in working in partnership with Tameside Hospital & Macmillan Cancer Care to deliver a high-quality Information & Support Service and in promoting and raising the profile of the Service with other professionals and client groups. We work closely with Tameside`s Nursing teams, Willow Wood Hospice, local General Practitioners, Patient groups and the Tameside and Glossop community.

David Banks

Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Services Manager

Prior to joining Tameside and Glossop ICFT  David worked as a  Macmillan Welfare Rights officer. David has over 20 years experience supporting people in times of crisis, 10 of those years working in Macmillan roles to support people affected by cancer.

"I am excited to be part of the Macmillan team helping to develop a much-needed service in Tameside and Glossop, working in partnership with Macmillan, the community and Tameside and Glossop ICFT creates exciting opportunities to work together to better support people affected by cancer.

It's a privilege to run and develop a service to support cancer patients and their families at such a difficult time in their lives.

I am proud to be part of such a special team of staff and volunteers at the centre. I would like to see the service grow and develop based on the feedback of those accessing the service as well as the wider community in order to ensure we are meeting the needs and concerns of people affected by cancer."
"We are here for people affected by cancer, to listen, help & support where ever we can"

Tania Armstrong

Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Services Assistant

Before joining the Macmillan Information and support service for Tameside and Glossop, Tania had a role within the NHS as a Children’s Palliative Care Support Worker.

"Being able to help people during difficult and uncertain times in their life within my previous role is also what drew me to what I am now doing as part of Macmillan. A cancer diagnosis is life changing and doesn’t just affect the person with the diagnosis but also has a ripple effect on their family and friends around them. Being able to be part of a team that can be able to provide answers, support and an amount of stability during that time is very rewarding and I think it’s important that people know there is somewhere they can turn to during that time".
