Macmillan Cancer Support, Tameside and Glossop integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and the local community have worked together to develop the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service at Tameside Hospital.

The centre offers a free, confidential drop-in service for anyone effected by cancer.

We offer an information & support service to Macmillans Cancer Support`s Quality in Information and Support Services, (MQUISS) Standards, in an environment which has been awarded Macmillan Cancer Support`s prestigious Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) and the Christie Quality Mark

We provide literature & practical support on all aspects of  living with cancer including concerns, emotional issues, managing side effects, financial issues including Travel & Insurance costs, claiming the appropriate benefits, managing your finances, managing debts, employment support (both for employees & employers), & help to access the support available in your area and more.

 

How we can help

No one should face cancer alone. When you're affected by cancer having the right kind of information and support, at the right time, is essential. 


Staffed by Macmillan Cancer information and Support specialists and trained volunteers, we are able to provide:

  • Literature on all aspects of living with cancer including work and finances,   

    Social concerns, emotional issues and managing side effects

  • The opportunity to discuss treatments, side effects and other cancer-related issues

  • A private room to talk to someone in confidence

  • Information and support over the phone for those not able to access the service in person

  • Internet access to guide people to appropriate information resources

  • Access to local information and support

  • Willow woods Complementary therapy service at The Tameside Macmillan Unit

  • Access to community support with Macmillan Solutions.

  • Links to local and national support services

  • Signposting and self-help and support groups

  • Access to financial advice and support 

  • Links to other voluntary and statutory agencies

  • Look good, feel better and beauty therapy sessions

  • Be active courses, which offer safe gentle exercise appropriate to you

We are working in partnership with a number of organisations with a shared goal of providing joined up support which recognises the needs & concerns of people affected by cancer.
